Tattoo Appointment FAQ

What are Zox's pronouns?
They/He.

How much are deposits? How do I send one?
Deposits are $100 paid by e-transfer to zox.tattoo@gmail.com or $105 by PayPal (only if you are international).

How do I make an appointment?
When books are open a booking link can be found under "tattoo booking".  Their email assistant will be in touch if the proposal is accepted. If you do not hear from them, they are too busy or there is an artist better suited to your idea.

If there is no booking link, their books are closed for custom work.

How far in advance do they book? What if I am visiting in a few months?
Zox usually only books 1-2 months at a time. Contact them closer to the time when you arrive.

Can I get a  flash piece if their books are closed?
Usually you can. They have available flash for viewing at Black Medicine and on Instagram. If there is a piece you are interested in, contact their tattoo email mentioned above to check availability.

What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing. Consider where the tattoo is going: do not wear tight pants if you are getting a thigh piece.

Will I get a drawing beforehand?
No, you will not get a drawing before the tattoo appointment. They work according to priority. All their work is custom and in their style. Be sure you are comfortable with that before booking.

What if I change my mind/must cancel? Can I get my deposit back?
Deposits are non-refundable. They cover design labor, date and time reservation as well as last minute cancellation.

Where do they work?
Black Medicine Tattoo in Vancouver, BC.

Do they ever guest spot?
Yes they do. Announcements are made on Instagram usually one month in advance.

What do they like to tattoo?
Zox likes to tattoo animals, beasts, bodies, people, surreal landscapes/creatures, narratives, and large flowers. If you have a weird idea, they'd like to know it.

What do they not want to tattoo/what do they not do?
Zox does not do any other style of tattooing outside of illustrative blackwork right now. No realism or shaded colour pieces. They will not accept proposals for fine line or tiny tattoos. They do not want to do small plants or bouquets.

Will they tattoo my art or design or another artists work?
NO.

Will they tattoo flash pieces more than once?
No.

Do they have art for sale?
Zox has prints and original art for sale through the "shop" tab or inquire about art for sale through the "contact" section.

What if I am concerned or forget what they told me?
Email Zox at the above email with any questions or concerns.

Can I send them a healed photo?
YES YOU CAN! Please have someone else take it for you for good perspective and lighting. If you are in the city/coming back, email Zox and pop by the shop so they can get a photo too!

How do I heal my tattoo?
Keep bandage on for four hours roughly, remove, rinse in shower with diluted unscented soap, pat dry NOT rub, apply unscented plain lotion immediately. Apply lotion 2-6+ daily depending on the size and darkness of the tattoo (DO NOT LET DRY OUT), clean 1-2 times a day, wear clean clothes, sleep on clean sheets, keep animals away from the wound. Do not allow scabbing and do not pick. After flaking, it will settle and be smooth within 3-4 weeks. Do not take baths, swim in pools/the ocean, go into saunas or hot tubs, have tattoo exposed to sunlight during healing or take long, hot showers over the tattoo. Once healed, apply sunscreen on hot/sunny days.

If wearing second skin: keep bandage on for 4-5 days if tattoo is only dot work or line work. If tattoo is shaded heavily or has solid black, keep first piece on 24 hours, remove under warm water in the shower/or with oil, clean with unscented soap, pat dry, apply second piece, keep on for 4-5 days. Repeat removal process. Moisturize after for a week or more. Most of the healing will be completed. If an allergic reaction occurs, remove the bandage immediately and heal traditionally (above).
